Eureka moment today!
A major realization occurred to me while being seated on my throne. I was just thinking about Economics and how resources have become scarce day by day. Then came the thought about limitations and how my life have become limited as people subjected me to that grim reality of life. Well, no matter how cramped and small the place will be for me, I will still thrive. Within the boundaries; within the limits set by people for me, I will still get up, pick up the pieces of my always broken self and thrive. That gets translated to this: Within the limitations set by society, life with satisfaction and joy can still thrive!
On to the shower, then came the thought about sustainability; ecological sustainability - that is. Defined, ecological sustainability is providing for ourselves in such a way that we do not reduce the ability of future generations to provide for themselves (Rae, 1994, 45). It is this thought that became the central idea of how I will proceed with the second phase of our year-long performance task in school. The guiding principle now is Ecological sustainability is both a primary question and a responsibility.
Anchored on the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Stewardship of God's creation, the second phase of the performance task will be geared towards environmental conservation. As mentioned in the Ateneo de Davao University's Mission, "It [the Ateneo de Davao University] engages vigorously in environmental protection, the preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of renewable energy," it is just but natural for us to design the course offering in such a way that we respond to, and directly address, the university's vision and mission statement.
It is in this light that the second phase of the Science Investigatory Project, our performance task, will focus on designing the experimentation process and data-gathering to address this call for ecological sustainability; to promote more good than harm in our environment.
God never really abandons. We might find ourselves in darkness, but in darkness there is life. Darkness is the ultimate reminder of limitations, but within this limitation is a life with satisfaction and joy thriving!
